Replacement Radiators

If your current radiators are old, corroded, or underperforming, a modern replacement will make an immediate difference. Today's double-panel convector radiators have a far larger effective surface area than the single-panel models common in older Luton homes. They heat the room faster, reach higher temperatures, and cool down more quickly when the thermostat signals the boiler to stop — giving you a more responsive, comfortable heating system.

New Radiator Fitting

Rooms that were not originally part of the central heating layout — converted garages, utility rooms, home offices, or conservatories — need a radiator added to the circuit. TRV Fitting

Thermostatic radiator valves replace your manual valves and allow automatic temperature regulation room by room. The valve contains a sensor that detects room temperature and adjusts the flow of hot water into the radiator accordingly. Rooms that tend to overheat — those catching afternoon sun or above a warm kitchen — are automatically regulated without you having to adjust anything.

Towel Rails

Heating Considerations for Luton Properties

Post-war housing (1940s-1950s). The older estates near Luton Road and Magpie Hall Road contain homes where central heating was retrofitted after original construction. The walls are often solid brick without cavity insulation, and original windows may still be single-glazed. These properties lose heat quickly and need radiators with higher BTU output to compensate. Standard double-panel convectors in wider sizes are the most practical solution.

1960s terraces and maisonettes. These properties have smaller rooms and lower ceilings, which helps retain heat but limits wall space for radiators. Compact double-panel convectors or vertical radiators make efficient use of the available wall area.

Later developments (1970s-1980s). Homes closer to the ME5 boundary, toward Walderslade and Lordswood, tend to have better insulation and larger rooms. Standard double-panel convectors work well here, and the rooms are usually spacious enough to accommodate the size of radiator needed.

Extensions and conversions. Many Luton homeowners have modified their properties over the years, and the heating system has not always kept pace. If your extension relies on a portable heater rather than the central heating, adding a properly connected radiator is a far more efficient and convenient solution.
